Dublin, IRELAND, 6th March 2006
Silicon & Software Systems (S3) today announced the general availability of S3AxS-DSLAM™ – a next generation IP DSLAM software product for the Intel® IXP2350 network processor. S3AxS-DSLAM enables telecom equipment vendors to rapidly provide triple-play solutions that are compliant with the DSL Forum's Working Text 101 document. These solutions can be deployed in ADSL2+ and VDSL based systems supporting up to 48 subscribers with simultaneous 24Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream line-rates. S3AxS-DSLAM contains all the data and control plane software components required to build a triple-play capable IP DSLAM incorporating multicast, IGMP, VLAN, packet filtering, and DiffServ traffic management.
S3AxS-DSLAM exploits the full range of high performance features and flexibility inherent in the optimized architecture of the Intel® IXP2350 network processor. The product fully leverages the on-chip multi-threaded RISC processors, the 32bit XScale® core, the advanced I/O and high-speed memory features of the Intel® IXP2350 to create a high performance, flexible IP DSLAM solution.
"S3 understands the opportunities and challenges in delivering next generation broadband access products where time-to-revenue and flexible platforms are critical to fast product introductions and deployment," said Jim O’Donoghue, General Manager of the Network Infrastructure group in S3. "S3AxS-DSLAM software allows rapid and cost effective deployment of next generation access equipment, enabling equipment manufacturers to have DSLAM products at the field test stage within 6 months."
S3 has worked closely with Intel to bring S3AxS-DSLAM to market. S3 is a long-standing member of the Intel® Communications Alliance and a leading supplier of Intel® IXP23xx network processor solutions to the telecom and network sector. "The Intel® IXP2350 Network Processor is designed to deliver a cost-effective and flexible solution for Broadband access equipment manufacturers. In our experience carriers deploying new broadband services, like IPTV, need flexibility to map into existing network deployments," said Frank Schapfel, Infrastructure Processor Hardware Product Line Manager. "Now, with the S3's S3AxS software and professional engineering services, broadband access equipment manufacturers can have both time to market and flexibility, to address this fast growing market segment."
